Kveloce is participating in the fifth edition of REBECA – Researchers Beyond Academia, the mentoring programme promoted by EURAXESS Spain (FECYT), which connects research talent with organisations from different sectors to explore professional opportunities beyond academia.
REBECA was created in response to a structural reality of the research ecosystem: only a minority of researchers build their long-term careers within universities, while many highly qualified professionals are unaware of the opportunities available in other environments. The programme facilitates this transition by connecting early-stage researchers — from doctoral candidates to postdoctoral researchers within their first years — with professionals from the private sector, the public sector and the third sector, fostering intersectoral networking, employability and knowledge valorisation.
In this edition, 40 organisations are collaborating in the initiative, which will support 112 researchers through personalised mentoring, dedicated training sessions, career orientation panels and networking activities. The objective is clear: to strengthen researchers’ employability, broaden their understanding of the diverse professional pathways available outside academia, and build strong bridges between research and society.
Supporting research talent
Within this framework, Mireia Ferri Sanz, PhD member of the Kveloce team, will participate as a mentor, accompanying a researcher over the coming months who is interested in expanding their perspective beyond academia and gaining first-hand insight into strategic consultancy in European funding and R&D&I projects.
At Kveloce, we understand mentoring as a space for dialogue and mutual learning. Beyond sharing technical knowledge, it is about offering a realistic view of the European innovation ecosystem, the professional opportunities available in non-academic environments, and the key competences required to build a career in areas such as consultancy, European project management or applied research.
Connecting research, talent and society
Our participation in REBECA reinforces our commitment to fostering sustainable and diverse research careers. Europe needs talent prepared to tackle major scientific, technological and societal challenges — and this also means creating spaces for transition and guidance towards sectors where research can have a direct societal impact.
As an organisation working at the intersection of science, European policies and innovation, Kveloce actively supports initiatives that strengthen the connection between the research community and other strategic professional environments.
Being part of REBECA allows us to contribute to this shared goal: to guide, support and share our experience so that research talent can discover new opportunities to continue generating value beyond academia.
