The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded its Consolidator Grants 2024 to 328 researchers across Europe. These grants, totalling €678 million, aim to support scientists in setting up their independent research teams and developing their most promising scientific ideas.
Projects selected for funding
Grants will support frontier research through projects in any area of knowledge, from engineering to life sciences and the humanities. Examples of projects include:
- Investigating what influences people’s responses to migrants.
- Using artificial intelligence to improve firefighting strategies.
- Analyse how voters of a losing party can accept defeat in democratic elections.
Facts and figures
The proposals funded under this call will be carried out in universities and research centres located in 25 EU Member States, as well as in other countries associated with Horizon Europe. Germany leads the list with the largest number of grants, with a total of 67 projects, followed by France and the UK, both with 38 projects, and the Netherlands with 37. It is estimated that these grants will generate approximately 2,750 jobs for postdoctoral researchers, PhD students and professionals at the host institutions.
